PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project aims to develop and qualify an Unmanned Arial System (UAS) for the transport of injured personnel, identifying solutions for the development and qualification of unmanned Aeromedical Evacuation (AE) capabilities and coordinating joint capability research.

OBJECTIVES/PRODUCTS

The goal of the project is to develop a Federated Mission Network (FMN) compliant, interoperable UAS, and design and test a UAS that meets FMN standards and can operate seamlessly with other systems, by:

  • Developing an initial capability for the UAS to evacuate patients from non-permissive environments, focusing on rapid extraction from challenging terrains or conditions.
  • Expanding the UAS capability to provide medical evacuation services, with the goal of reducing morbidity and mortality rates.
  • Integrating the UAS-based casualty evacuation system into the existing rescue chain, amending medical concepts as needed.
  • Illustrating the benefits of using UAS for casualty evacuation in various scenarios, highlighting the potential for improved outcomes.
  • Progressing from a minimum capability (CASEVAC) to a maximum capability (MEDEVAC) under specific conditions, ensuring a fundamental separation of platform (UAS) and functionality (“transport box”).
  • Gathering information on existing EU, EDA, and national projects related to UAS-based casualty evacuation, and coordinate efforts to accelerate targeted capability development.
  • Creating conditions for rapid and targeted development of UAS-based casualty evacuation capabilities, leveraging the results of the project to inform future investments and initiatives.
