DEPLOYABLE MODULAR UNDERWATER INTERVENTION CAPABILITY PACKAGE (DIVEPACK)

The project aims at developing an interoperable specialized modular asset for full spectrum defensive underwater intervention operations in expeditionary setting. The DIVEPACK unit will integrate a wide range of diving and Unmanned Underwater Vehicles materiel, operated by qualified personnel, in a comprehensive capability package. Its mission tailorable open architecture “plug-and-play” concept will facilitate the versatility of response in the framework of EU CSDP operations and will provide a quick reaction capability, applicable to a broad range of underwater scenarios, both at sea and in inland bodies of water, short of Special Forces missions.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The overall aim of the DIVEPACK project is to provide a full spectrum defensive (non-SOF) underwater intervention capability in support of EU/NATO missions, both at sea and in inland bodies of water. The final product should be a high readiness strategically deployable asset, delivering comprehensive response to a broad range of underwater scenarios within or outside of the EU, by developing of a standard size specialized land/air/sea transportable containerized mission modules operated by qualified personnel.

OBJECTIVES/PRODUCTS

In the short-term, the necessary research and development (R&D) phases in support of the project will be completed and the first prototype DIVEPACK unit should achieve Full Operational Capability (FOC). In the mid-term, mission testing of the first unit is expected, when it shall be made available for CSDP operations and, if proven successful, further multiplication of the concept could be anticipated. In the long term, a DIVEPACK unit could become a permanent, or on-call enabler in a coherent full spectrum EU force package.
