The project will develop and build a prototype European Armoured Infantry Fighting Vehicle / Amphibious Assault Vehicle / Light Armoured Vehicle.
The vehicles would be based on a common platform and would support fast deployment manoeuvre, reconnaissance, combat support, logistics support, command and control, and medical support. These new vehicles will also strengthen the EU CSPD ensuring, at the same time, the interoperability among European armies.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The project aims at developing a complete capability for Combined Arms Brigades in terms of Combat, Combat Support, Combat Service Support and Command and Control functions. The next generation Armoured Infantry Fighting Vehicle will feature a system of systems, open architecture, modular approach which will enable the development of a whole family of combat and support platforms (e.g. Antitank, Mortar Carrier, Reconnaissance, Combat Engineer, Tactical Command Post, Ammunition and Logistics Carrier, Protected Ambulance, Recovery, Electronic Warfare, CBRN and V-SHORAD).
The combat vehicle will feature evolutionary performances in terms of tactical mobility and protection, being capable of addressing effectively ballistic, CBRN, IED, CYBER and UAS threats. The next generation platform will also feature highly precise lethality combined with effective C5ISTAR subsystems for accurate battle space management, communications and information, while reducing the emission of various signatures (electromagnetic, radar, thermal) and providing low energetic-environmental impact.
The acquisition of the next generation AIFV, either featuring a common vehicle base (chassis) and/or the highest applicable commonality of subsystems (AAV and LAV versions), will provide different type of forces (heavy, medium and light) with state of the art, well equipped platforms, capable of integrating top of the edge technologies and have an impact on every kind of operation, envisaging sea-based employments as well.
The operational effectiveness of such interoperable, connected, cost-effective platforms will include the reduction of research and development costs, the enablement of common logistic chains while on operation (based on maximum commonality of platforms) and the attainment of highly effective logistic cycles in a larger market which will create conditions for a greater availability of spare parts at more affordable costs. These benefits are expected to be applicable to future platform upgrades as well.
OBJECTIVES/PRODUCTS
The objective is to develop prototypes of an EU Armoured Infantry Fighting Vehicle (AIFV), Amphibious Assault Vehicle (AAV) and Light Armoured Vehicle (LAV), by pursuing a medium/long term strategy in order to achieve the maximum level of sharing among EU member states and to generate a high degree of integration and interoperability among EU Armed Forces.
