PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project aims to improve surgical support in the EU’s civilian and military CSDP missions and operations in the front line by relying on interoperable, highly standardised and easily deployable Medical Treatment Facilities, with low logistical footprint.

OBJECTIVES/PRODUCTS

The goal of the project is to enhance the EU’s capacity to provide effective medical care in high-intensity conflicts, while also ensuring the quality and safety of surgical procedures, by:

  • Developing a European approach to teaching damage control surgery that diverges from modern surgery standards, focusing on traditional surgical methods without compromising the quality of care.
  • Establishing a common modus operandi for the use of MTF Role 2F among EU Member States, including common training methods and procedures.
  • Obtaining derogations from European directives and national regulations to enable medical staff to operate in wartime.
  • Drawing up European recommendations for training surgeons in the use of MTF Role 2F, ensuring a common standard for medical care in high-intensity conflicts.
  • Exploring the concept of a common pool of equipment and resources for EU operations, potentially procured by the EU, to support the deployment of MTF Role 2F.
  • Emphasising the dual civil-military nature of the MTF Role 2F, and highlighting its potential for use in both military and civilian contexts, to facilitate its development and deployment.
  • Improving the operational sustainment and responsiveness of surgical support near the front line, by developing a versatile and easily deployable MTF with a low logistical footprint.
