PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project aims to investigate the multinational potential to improve existing Air-to-Air Refuelling (AAR) capabilities, possible commercial providers and co-operations, as well as in particular the development and procurement of new (unmanned)AAR systems.

OBJECTIVES/PRODUCTS

The goal of the project is to develop a comprehensive and resilient EU air-to-air refuelling capability that aligns with NATO capability targets and supports the EU CSDP, by:

  • Addressing the existing capability gap in air-to-air refuelling through a multi-faceted approach, including the development of unmanned aerial refuelling systems, contractor-based solutions, and common procurement and usage of available solutions.
  • Reducing the EU’s dependency to enable EU MS to sustain major air operations.
  • Developing a capability that allows EU MS to project air power all around the globe to achieve strategic sovereignty.
  • Building on existing frameworks, such as the Multinational Multi-Role Tanker Transport Fleet (MMF), to enhance cooperation and integration of resources across MS and achieve greater operational synergy and cost-effectiveness.
  • Developing a capability that supports the rapid deployment and persistent presence of air power and enables the EU to conduct strategic and tactical missions effectively.
