PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project aims to develop a modular and scalable Directed Energy Weapon (DEW) based effector to be mounted on any mobile platform. The project intends to strengthen Surface Based Air and Missile Defence by focusing on Short-Range Air Defence (SHORAD) and Very Short-Range Air Defence System (VSOHRAD) capabilities, including Counter Unmanned Aerial Systems (C-UAS) and Counter Rockets Artillery and Mortar (C-RAM).

OBJECTIVES/PRODUCTS

The goal of the project is to enhance Energy Weapon based SBAMD (focusing on SHORAD and VSHORAD) capabilities, by:

  • Developing a system that can effectively counter UAS, RAM, loitering munitions, and cruise missiles.
  • Integrating scalable High Energy Laser technology (10-100 kW power) into mobile platforms to counter various air-breathing threats.
  • Developing a system that can deliver precise and controlled effects, with minimal collateral damage, and adaptable to various threat scenarios.
  • Ensuring the system meets requirements such as depth of magazine, cost exchange ratio, limited logistic footprint, precision, near zero collateral damage, and speed of engagement.
  • Creating a C3 system that integrates Threat Evaluation, Sensing, and Weapon Assignment tools to support the DEW system.
  • Achieving an appropriate level of participation among stakeholders, ensuring interoperability and a shared understanding of how the system will be employed.
